Kao participated in the Happy Jikan seventh generation auditions. She made it to the finals, but then lost to Zeng Yun, Joe Song, Hsaoi Zhe, and Bui Shun.
2013[]
During the Hello! Project Winter 2013 concert, it was announced that Kao had joined the Hello!Project Foreigners.
On October 18, it was revealed that Kao passed Shiko Jikan's sixth generation audition, along with Nyu Xiwang.

- "Kao JingJing is very clever but lacks the Happy Jikan aura. I am looking for girls who would be a great teammate, who could leave the group knowing that she affected the group. Kao doesn't look like she is capable of that. I would add her if she would stop being so shy and loosen up a bit.".
