Idol Project was a collective group. It is the sister/rival group of Hello! Project, DreamS and Nice Girl Project. The group debuted on April 1, 2013. The project was officially dissolved on May 23, 2014.

History

2013

UP-FRONT and Tsunku announced Idol Project. The first unit that would debut under is Happy Musume.

On April 24, Up Front Group, Sexy Beatvia, was transferred to Idol Project and started being managed by Tsunku.

On June 23, Tsunku announced that there would be auditions to find members for the project. The audition deadline is August 1, 2013.

On July 24, Kudou Mari was added to The Idol Project as a soloist.

The same day, it was announced that The Idol Project would have their first Winter Tour.

2014

On March 19, it was announced that the project would disband, with the members going to various places or leaving the agency all together.

On May 23, The Idol Project held their final concert as a collective group, and officially ended activities the same day.

Trivia

  • This will be the first group to have two levels of Kenshuusei.
  • Happy Musume was supposed to debut in Hello! Project, but was transferred over to Idol Project instead.
  • Happy Musume was supposed to be a sub-unit under Morning Musume.
  • The Kenshuusei will focus on harder elements than the Hello! Pro Kenshuusei and DreamS Kenshuusei.
  • Idol Eggs are meant for girls 5-10 and on an egg's eleventh birthday, the egg can choose to continue on to Idol Kenshuusei or transfer to another program. Some can stop activities and return to a normal life.
  • Due to low sales, the umbrella group disbanded.
